JOSÉ APARACIO (tenor)

José Aparacio


José Aparicio was born in Alicante, Spain. He studied flute and music in Alicante, and after graduation he began his career as a professional flute player, becoming principal flute in the Chamber Orchestra of Elche and the Symphonic Orchestra of Alicante. In 1999 he completed the Post Diploma Orchestral Training Course, as a flautist, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The following year he changed his studies to voice, and started in the second year of the undergraduate singing course, which he completed in 2002.

His oratorio performances include works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Operatic performances include extracts from Puccini’s La Bohème, Donizetti’s L’elisir d'amore, Britten’s Rape of Lucretia and Midsummer Night’s Dream, Massenet’s Werther, Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress and Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

José is in his second year of the Opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Adrian Thompson and Paula Anglin. He won the second prize in the Guildhall’s bi-annual Gold Medal in May 2003, held in the Barbican Hall, London. Roles include Leander in Nielsen's Maskerade, Bénédict in Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict and Basilio in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. Future engagements include Male Chorus in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia at GSMD in June 2004. José will join the National Opera Studio in September 2004.
