Summary of ESO notices 21.11.08:
- The roads around St Martin’s are being resurfaced. We are told that parking will still be possible tomorrow, but it may not be as easy as usual, although the residents’ parking does not apply on Saturdays. Ealing Common tube is only a short step away, and the 207 bus runs frequently along the Uxbridge Road.
- Rehearsal and concert schedule is on the member’s page, kept updated as information arrives. Full programmes at www.progs.ealingso.org.uk .
- As always, please make sure your fixer and/or Richard knows straight away whether or not you’ll be playing December 6th in Thame. With only two weeks to go, we need to know what holes have to be filled. Echoes of July: the concerto will not be the Prokofiev after all, due to a changed recording schedule for our soloist. Watch this space! Catherine has the last few remaining tickets for this, so catch her quickly if you have friends or family who would like to come.
- Don’t forget that David Weedon needs your deposit for the Christmas party on December 11th.
- I have a leaflet for this year’s Musicians’ Benevolent Fund Christmas cards, which might appeal if you’d like to support this distinctly good cause. In print at rehearsals, or on line at www.mbf.org.uk.
- If you can’t do Thame or the party, we’ll hope to see you again in the New Year on January 8th to start on Alwyn, Brahms and Glazunov for February 7th.
- More adverts for the concert programme are always welcome. See Richard or Steve Warrington.
- We need to know who’s on (and who’s not) for the projected trip to Dublin with the Lord Williams’s Festival Chorus with the German Requiem, to see if it’s practicable. The plan is to perform on a non-bank-holiday Saturday in May, probably May 9th. Travel out could be Friday, after work if necessary, and return on Sunday evening, or later if you can get the time. If you haven’t already told him or your fixer, could you kindly drop Richard an email: secretary@ealingso.org.uk? Ta!
- The date for the chamber music concert in St Mary’s Perivale has been changed to Sunday July 5th 2009, one day later, to avoid a clash with the Youth Orchestra.
- Treasurer Paul Robinson is after your money. It’s held as last year at £37 per concert (we don’t charge for more than four), or £130 for the whole season if you pay before Christmas. Special rates apply if you’re very young, very old or just broke: have a quiet word with Paul. Do please make life easier for him by not waiting for him to tap you on the shoulder.
- We’re now asking all string players to sign out their music. You sign out a set when you first take it, and are then responsible for it until either you sign it back in or the concert. Whether or not you have to sign, though, it is of course vital that all music is at the rehearsals, even if you have to miss a week.
- CDs of all concerts (except Ischia) from Richard for the usual £10.
- DVD of Canadian TV documentary about Ischia from Richard for just £1. Well worth having.
- DVD of the chamber music concert in St Mary's, Perivale on request from Richard!
- As usual, Richard has printed address lists and the little cards with the whole season and other useful stuff.
- Don't forget to let Richard know if you move, change ’phone number, email etc. Ta!
